
Today, Senior High School 1 of Bekasi city in Indonesia (SMAN 1 Bekasi) played host to the ASEAN Schools Tour 2008.
About 300 students from SMAN 1 Bekasi, SMAN 2, SMAN 5 and SMA Global Bekasi took part in the event that was also attended by the Mayor of Bekasi, Mr. Mochtar Mohammad.
Besides enthusiastically taking part in the pop quiz, ASEAN quiz and Q&A session, eight outstanding students competed against each other to give the best speech on ASEAN.
During the programme, the head of the ASEAN Schools Tour delegation, Ms Linda Lee, Head of Public Affairs Office and Culture and Information Unit, enlightened the students on what the ASEAN Community is and how the youth can participate in building a successful ASEAN Community through ASEAN’s various youth-oriented projects.
This is the final stop of ASEAN Schools Tour 2008, which began in October last year.
Altogether, the ASEAN Schools Tour team has made friends with more than 4,500 junior to high schools students in ten ASEAN cities, educating them about ASEAN and encouraging them to know more and continue to learn about ASEAN so that they too can do the same for their friends and family |

ASEAN Tourism Forum and Ministerial Meetings in Hanoi, Viet Nam

ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2009 kicked off today in Ha Noi with Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam Nguyen Thien Nhan opening the Forum.
The ATF was preceded by the 12th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers who declared 2009 and 2010 the Youth Travellers’ Year within ASEAN. The Ministers, anticipating the impact of the global economic crisis, agreed to target intra-ASEAN travel among youths as a key segment of a tactical campaign to promote ASEAN tourism. The Ministers tasked their Senior Officials to prepare the detailed plan of the campaign before the 14th ASEAN Summit.
The Ministers also met their counterparts from China, Japan and Republic of Korea at the 8th Meeting of ASEAN Plus 3 Tourism Ministers. At this gathering, the Ministers agreed to further develop and enhance tourism through the adoption of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals and the preparation of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2011-2015.
