Brief Bio

Yanjie Gao received his Ph.D. in History in 2012 from the Center for Cold War International History Studies at East China Normal University. He is Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of International Relations / Research School for Southeast Asian Studies, Xiamen University. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Alliance of Chinese Universities for Talent Cultivation and Discipline Construction in Area and Country Studies, Standing Council Member of the Society of Diplomatic History of the People’s Republic of China, and Vice President of the China Society for Southeast Asian Studies, among other positions.

He has been a visiting scholar at overseas institutions including the Mershon Center for International Security Studies at The Ohio State University and the Department of History at the University of Maryland. His research focuses on Cold War international history, the history of U.S. foreign relations, and Southeast Asian history. He has directed more than ten research projects, including Major Projects of Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education and projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China. He has published more than thirty articles in Chinese and English in leading journals.
